Less Government or More Government?

Looks like John McCain doesn't know what he believes.

I guess if the fundamentals of the economy are strong, then you don't need government regulation:

Of course I don’t like excessive and unnecessary regu — uh, government regulation.
(John McCain on NBC's Today Show, Sept. 17th)

On the other hand, McCain's campaign also believes in strong regulatory oversight of Wall Street:
Do I believe in excess government regulation? Yes. But this patchwork quilt of regulating bodies was designed for the 1930s when they were invented.
(John McCain on CBS's Early Show, Sept. 17th)

Now surely, someone will point out, that just like "fundamentals" applies to people and ingenuity (ironically disingenuous), that you can believe in "excess government regulation" but simultaneously not "like" it.

Lest you think this inconsistency will bug Republicans, remember, this is the party that likes to call Universal Health Care "socialized medicine" but when it comes to bailing out Freddie, Fannie, and AIG, well that's not "socialized economics" that's prudent fiscal policy!

Who needs regulation when you can just let the market tank, and then bail it all out with taxpayer money?
