CAREER HISTORY:

Software Engineering Manager
Renton, WA
03/2002 - Current
Classmates.com/United Online (UNTD)

A leading provider of consumer Internet subscription services and online community-based networking.

At Classmates I have been responsible for leading teams of Perl and Java software engineers, and providing subject-matter expertise of a number of business-critical systems. I led the team of engineers who maintained the Perl site while the company re-platformed to Java/ATG Dynamo. Post-launch, I lead the Tactical engineering team, providing project estimates, performing alternative analysis, examining resource requirements, and assigning tasks. I have conducted the tagging, build, and release management of the Classmates codebase, and coordinated Development activity for our site posts.

Chief Technical Officer
Bellevue, WA
05/1997 - 12/2001
Media Access Internet Solutions, Inc.

A Web development and consulting firm providing e-commerce and database-enabled Web solutions.

As co-founder and CTO of Media Access, I built and led the team that developed a standards-based web application hosting platform that was used to create feature-rich, scalable and usable Web sites. I did the initial analysis and evaluation of Prosser Media Access (PMA), which culminated in the acquisition of PMA by the co-founders. I managed the entire production team including software and database engineers to project managers, editorial staff, graphic designers and HTML developers. I established R&D and Best Practices initiatives. I helped conceive, architect, implement and maintain the hosting platform. After five years of operations, my partners and I transitioned our systems and customers as part of a strategic agreement to Peak Systems in Seattle.

Network Director
Bellingham, WA
10/1994 - 03/1999
Pacific Rim Network, Inc.

A regional Internet Service Provider offering high-speed Internet connectivity to businesses.

I managed the technical operations of the Web hosting and Network services of one of the largest regional ISPs in Washington State spanning five counties utilizing various networking topologies. We were first-to-market with ISDN, DSL and ATM services in Washington. I managed collocation and network agreements with upstream ISPs and LECs. I launched a strategic partnership, marketing and support organization for Web development customers. I engineered successful live migration of thousands of customers through three generations of dialup technology. In 1997, my partners and I negotiated the sale of Pacific Rim to Verio, Inc. (now NTT), conducted technical due diligence, and migrated Pacific Rim systems to regional and national Verio infrastructure.

Webmaster
Bellingham, WA
06/1992 - 10/1994
Western Washington University

An accredited four-year university with degree programs in a variety of disciplines.

I helped build the first official Campus-Wide Information System (CWIS), including Gopher, Web, and WAIS systems. I maintained the official WWU Web server, performed system administration, and developed HTML and CGI applications. In 1993, we established the first campus Web/Oracle integration, pulling campus Events from an Oracle back-end via PL/SQL, parsing the output via a Perl CGI for publication via the Web. I also managed mailing list software, and maintained student Web sites in an NFS/NIS system.
